Breast cancer doesn’t discriminate. Virtually everyone has been touched by it in some way.
Where do you turn when you’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer and can’t afford treatment? Or you can’t work and the rent needs to be paid?
While many organizations raise money for breast cancer research, To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit based in Marin County, has a more immediate focus.
Stepping Out raises funds and grants financial assistance to nonprofit organizations that provide services and support to people living with breast cancer.
To accomplish this they:

Seek sponsorships, donations, and hold fundraising events

Assess needs and evaluate programs that best address the challenges faced by people undergoing breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery

Provide grants to Bay Area nonprofits that have demonstrated the ability to achieve their program goal, and evaluate results of funded programs
This is a volunteer-based organization, that is – in their words – ” guided by our survivor spirit and a passion to touch the hearts of those who need our help.”
Their roots go back to 1996, when a group of breast cancer survivors in Marin County came together to hold a fashion show/fundraiser, the first Stepping Out To Celebrate Life. The event was so successful, it evolved into an annual gala, growing steadily year after year. The models are all breast cancer survivors or those currently undergoing treatment. These women and men (yes men) are an inspiration!
Last year I was honored to be asked to be a part of the Fashion Team for their gala event Stepping Out To Celebrate Life Fashion Show. We were the liason and support between the stores providing the fashions and the models. I was honored and touched to be a part of this wonderful team, headed up by my friend Chris Brettingen.
This is their 20th year to hold this Gala event!
