Have a Ball! Pilates on the Ball

My Wednesday morning Ball Class is one of my favorite classes of the week!  I love the challenge of the ball exercises.  The balance, focus and coordination make it a fun class to teach.  My students are amazing!  When I started the class a couple of years ago, we all struggled with holding a bridge on the ball, now a few years later we are holding a bridge with one foot and one hand plus adding difficult choreography!  I’m so proud of their progress.  We have also learned to balance on our seats, our pelvis and our knees.  Bravo!

Don’t let this scare you away from trying it though.  Any type of stability training is great for you, whether you are good at it or not.  In fact, the worse you are at it, the more you probably need it.  As we age, we begin to lose our balance due to stiff limbs and joints and loss of core control.  Problems in the inner ear, one of the command centers of balance, can also cause problems with our balance.  So, just like with anything, the more you practice, the better you will get.
