Weigh In Wednesday with Susan

Halleluiah!  I wore a fitted dress shirt tucked in last week.   This may not seem like a big deal, but I’ve been wearing shirts untucked to cover up my muffin top/love handles/spare tire/extra belly fat (add your preferred descriptor here).   It’s nice to see progress.

I feel progress too.  I have more body awareness.  I’m thinking about zipping, belting and buttoning   (Pilates speak for sucking in your gut) as I’m standing at the grocery store or sitting in my car.  I notice myself rolling my shoulders back and down.  My posture has always been pretty good, but I feel as though I’m standing and sitting straighter – almost as though I’m more present in my body.

My Pilates workouts are not getting any easier.  I am not resting as long between sets, so as I improve, I work harder.

Here’s the recap of my past 3 workouts:

Week 3 session 1: I had privates on two consecutive days and my glutes are sore from our previous session.  We work over the barrel; it’s something different and helps my flexibility.   I’m wiped out after the session.  I find myself holding the bannister firmly walking down the stairs.  The next day I’m continuously reminded that my arms are sore, as I reach to lift anything – even my water bottle.

Week 3 session 2: We work on the Cadillac and I hold on for dear life as I practice hanging pull-ups.  I hold onto the top of the Cadillac (not a car, but a tricked out workout bench) while my feet are suspended in front of me and I arch backwards.  We also work on inversions, short and long-spine and 90 second planks.  I would rather work on 30 second planks.

Week 3 session 3:  This is my Sunflower group class. I enjoy seeing everyone and hearing others groan at the same things I do.  We use the tower and work hard.  I like the resistance the springs offer and get a good workout for both my arms and legs.  Rather than cat/cow, Heather has us stretch switching from cat to sexy cat.  I practice tossing my hair back as I dramatize sexy cat.

Thanks Heather for making us work hard and keeping it fun.

Silicone Oven Mitts double as non slip pads for hanging upside down on the Cadillac!  🙂 Better for gripping.
