What The Fitness Tip – How To Do a Pushup Correctly

Pushups!  A hard exercise to perform correctly, mainly because of incorrect hand placement.  Biggest tip I can give you is to have your hands either

  1.  Directly under your shoulders for a narrow pushup (yoga pushup)
  2. Regular Pushup – hands should still be in line with your shoulders, wider than your shoulders, but in line. Watch that you don’t place your hands higher than your shoulder line.

Next, make sure you don’t sag in your back.  Keep a tight core, engage your abs to help keep your back flat.  If you cannot keep good form, just limit your range of motion to a half push up (bend elbows only 1-2 inches) or come to your knees to be successful.
