Posture Tips from Vacation!

Last Friday in my Mat class we discussed posture and I gave a few tips on how to improve it by just looking at how you stand.  So stand up out of your chair and just take notice!  Where do your arms hang while you are standing?  Go ahead, try it and see!  For most of us our arms hang slightly in front of our body due to poor posture.  Our arms should hang directly at our sides.  What can you do?  Well for starters, roll your shoulders back and down.  Broaden your collarbone.  Visualize a hanger and how you adjust a garment to hang properly on that hanger.  Do the same with your shoulders.  Broaden your shoulders wide like a hanger.  Don’t shove your shoulders back and stick out your chest and pinch your shoulder blades together in the back.  This over compensates.  Rotate your arm bone outward and then rotate your forearm in slightly so that your palms face the sides of your legs!  There you go!  Try it!  By just making that one small adjustment, that should have made you stand up taller, align your spine and zip your zipper (pulling in your lower abdomen!)  Now try that a few times a day to check your posture!  You’ll stand up straighter, look more confident, breathe easier and feel better!
