This weekend I learned about Spirulina – a seaweed consistency plant that is high in Vitamin B. Vitamin B is responsible for turning the food you need into energy. It can be found in legumes, molasses, whole grains, potatoes and bananas. Many foods are enriched with B Vitamins as are many energy drinks. So is beer, but the alcohol content cancels out any good the Vitamin B does! So if your running on empty, fuel up with Spirulina either in a smoothie or in a chewable pill form.
Spirulina is about 60% pure protein, so its a great vegan source of complete protein too. You can find it in health food stores or at Whole Foods.
Try this smoothie out and see what you think!
Spiritual Gangster Smoothie:
1 1/2 cups coconut water
1 cup kale
10 green grapes
5 mint leaves
1 tsp Spirulina
2 ice cubes
Blend everything except ice in a blender or nutri bullet then when it is smooth, add ice and blend a few more seconds.
