Pilates 101 – A New Year Review

As we begin 2016 I want to start the year off right with a review of Pilates and what it means.  Here we go: *Disclaimer – I have a little bit of a cold.  Forgive my cough!

Review of The Towel Exercise – learn to get out of your neck and shoulders and use your abs and triceps to do an abdominal curl

Pelvic Stability – learn to keep your pelvis stable while moving your limbs.  Move slower or smaller to accomplish this in the bridge.

Zipper – Keep your transverse abdominus “zipped” while moving your limbs and keep your torso and pelvis stable while moving your limbs and keeping your lower abdominals engaged in The Leg Lower/Lift exercise.

Super hero pose – Fire your latissimus dorsi (lats) with this magic circle exercise.  Engaging this muscle helps keep your posture perfect and helps you with numerous pilates exercises.

If you can remember these few tips and apply them to your pilates routine, you should be lined up for a successful session and see the results you are wanting!
