a921b1a5953616fa7b1e415200b149c7With the Holidays here and endless parties and pageants to attend none of us has time to be sick, but when do we ever?

Here are a few tips to help boost your immune system.

1.  Oysters.  Yes, oysters!  They’ve been known to be an aphrodisiac but did you also know that just one Oyster (raw or cooked) will take care of your recommended daily value of ZINC?  Zinc boosts your immune system so slurp away!

2.  Edamame.  These little pods give you omega 3 fatty acids, which reduce inflammation and help in preventing depression, which we sometimes can get during the holidays.

3.  Papaya.  You don’t have to head to Hawaii, just head to your freezer section at the grocery store (okay, Hawaii would be way more fun!) but this little tropical fruit stimulates antibodies and fights infections with Vitamin A for awesome!

4.  Shiitake Mushrooms.  A single serving of ‘shrooms can improve your immune system by reducing your levels of inflammatory proteins.

5.  Brazil Nuts.  The new darling of the nut group.  Just one and done!  This nut provides selenium which is a potent anti-oxidant that is needed for the immune system to function properly.  Again, one and done is all you need!

Well now you have that cold so what can you do to help speed up the recovery and feel better?

1.  Montmorency Cherry Juice.  Helps with Insomnia during your cold.  It increases the level of melatonin which help with sleep.

2.  Honey, Honey.  Can ease a cough by soothing the nerve fibers that make you cough.  Try it in your tea.

3.  Peppermint.  The menthol in peppermint helps dislodge mucus and phlegm.

4.  Licorice.  An antiviral medicine for both Eastern and Western medicine.  Add a few drops of licorice extract to hot water or try a root based tea.
