Weekend Warriors – Workout Ideas and Suggestions!

4With the Memorial Day Weekend almost upon us, if you haven’t made plans yet or only have partial plans made, here are a few ideas to incorporate into your weekend to stay fit and get out of your regular routine.

San Francisco and Marin

  1.  The Ferry Building – take a walk from the The Bay Club San Francisco after your favorite spin or yoga class and walk around the Farmer’s Market on Saturday.  It’s great people watching and it’s fun to see all the vendors.  Whether you sample the food or buy some flowers, it’s a great way to get outside and get some walking in.  Don’t want to buy anything because you are on foot?  They have a pick up service for that!  Buy what you want and then pick it up curbside later when you have transportation.
  2. Coit Tower – take a walk up the stairs to Coit Tower.  It’s a great workout and there are some lovely views at the top and along the way.  There are some beautiful flower gardens and homes to look at as you are climbing.  Do one loop for something different in your workout routine or do 3 loops to really get a good sweat going!
  3. Dipsea Stairs – Starting in Mill Valley town square – take a short walk up Throckmorton to the park where you will find the Dipsea stairs.  There are 3 different sections to get to the top of Sequoia Drive.  Continue on the path to take a sunny hike that could take you all the way to Stinson Beach or just turn around and go back down to Mill Valley to enjoy a cup of coffee.  Again, I like the number 3 so you could also do the stairs in a loop 3 times for a killer workout!
  4. Muir Woods Hike.  Starting at the Homestead Inn on Panoramic Highway, find the trailhead that starts across the street from the Alpine Club.  You will walk down about 1.5-2.0 miles into Muir Woods National Park.  If you want to get up early and beat the crowds and make a donation to the National Park Service, then go through the Muir Woods Park and enjoy the views and then take the trail called Ocean View up to the Homestead Inn.  It is easier to park at the parking lot across from the Homestead Inn than it is to park at Muir Woods.
  5. Take a walk in this lovely city that we live in or rent a bike and take a ride!  We GET to live here in this wonderful, beautiful city that people from all around the world come to visit.  Get out and enjoy it!
