Monday Mat! – Rolling Series

Today’s Monday Mat is the Rolling Exercises

  • Rolling (like a ball)
  • Open Leg Rocker
  • Seal

Rolling exercises help us to

  • Increase flexibility in the spine
  • Increase mobility in the spine
  • Articulate the spine, which leads to mobility and flexibility
  • Improve core control by working on sustained flexion

What does that last one mean?  It means that you have to keep your back (your spine) in a C -curve.  Don’t flatten your back during these exercises.  Maintain a rounded, curved spine throughout.  Also, when your roll back up – think like an Olympic Gymnast and “stick your landing” – meaning don’t tip forward – find your balance so that you land on the back of your tailbone and don’t let the feet or legs hit the floor or tip you forward.  You’ll understand when you see the video.
