What the Fashion – The Skinny on Jeans

IMG_7783Here is the latest posting from Rowena Leung – my Fashionista!  Today she is giving her 2 cents on jeans.

Jeans are so over merchandised!  You can get a designer label for $300/pair or you can go to a consignment store for $30-50/pair.

Just because it has a label, has nothing to do with what looks good on the person.  Fit is the key, as it is different for every body type.  If it makes one happy to dish out $300, go for it!

To me, jeans have only 1 reason, practicality.  To spice your wardrobe up and make it look great, a good quality/fit blazer/jacket is the key.  You can dress the jeans up or down.  I would rather invest in a great jacket than jeans.

And of course, SHOES!!!

Accessorize!! With a great jacket, a pair of killer heels and the right handbag, and of course, you must have a good watch.  Then, you will look a million dollars!!

My favorite jeans are by “Closed“.  I bought them in Germany.  You can get them online.  Skinny fit and quilted, makes it more interesting.  These jeans fit well, and that’s most important.  Price range – about $200.

Here is my take on jeans.  Jeans are never a show piece, so focus on what you want to show off.

Jeans are plentiful at any thrift or consignment stores.  You can get a good pair for as low as $10 to $40.  But you must find the right fit for your body type.

Here are a few examples of showcasing a piece with jeans:

Day in the city.  My focus is my camisole.  Just throw on a linen jacket for the cool weather in SF and just any espadrille or loafer.  Rag and Bone Jeans.

Casual chic.  Same pair of jeans.  Just any ordinary cheap white t-shirt will do and your favorite pair of sneakers or cowboy boots.  My focus is the suede vest.

Same jeans.  Night in town clubbing.  My focus is my Chanel jacket.  I added a plain red t-shirt, a strand of pearls or many strands of pearls and just a plain stiletto and of course the Gucci handbag!

The Takeaway –

Cheap jeans go a long way.  Choose a darker shade of jeans as it’s more versatile.

Again focus on what you want to show and build from there

My advise, don’t spend your money on jeans, get them from consignment stores.  There is one in Mill Valley called Diamond in the Rough.  They have an abundance of good jeans.

Happy Shopping!
